Why Did Tesla Stock Fall Today?
Tesla’s robotaxi rollout left pricing and production questions unanswered, while federal regulators opened a safety audit into the Cybercab.
Tesla shares fell 6% on Friday after the Cybercab launch event failed to impress investors, wiping out gains from the previous session and raising concerns about the company's robotaxi ambitions.
Held Thursday in Austin, Texas, the invitation-only event lacked a public livestream and featured no appearance by CEO Elon Musk, leaving investors without details on production or pricing.
On Thursday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration initiated an "audit query" to determine if Tesla properly self-certified the Cybercab, questioning the absence of standard safety features like steering wheels and pedals.
Analysts at RBC Capital Markets wrote that the event offered limited disclosure, leaving "key outstanding questions around pricing, production cadence, and regulatory approvals" unanswered on Friday.
While Tesla has authorized 45 Cybercabs for driverless operations in Texas, the service faces early execution issues as the company attempts to scale its fleet beyond these initial units.
