Sunderland 0-0 Man Utd: Task of Replacing Casemiro Will Not Be Easy for United
Casemiro is expected back for his Old Trafford farewell after a minor injury left Manchester United short in midfield, Carrick said.
On Saturday, Manchester United travels to Sunderland without key players Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko, forcing interim manager Michael Carrick to adjust his starting lineup due to injuries.
Casemiro suffered a "minor injury," while Sesko remains out with a nagging shin issue; Carrick confirmed on Friday that the Slovenia international was unlikely to feature.
With Manuel Ugarte also out after a training knock, Carrick handed Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount their first starts of his tenure, joining captain Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo in midfield.
Carrick emphasized squad rotation, stating, "It's the balance that we've made the most of really, so coming into these games it's something we're aware of." The approach allows evaluation of players during final matches.
United expects Casemiro to return next Sunday against Forest and then face Brighton a week later, with both fixtures coming as the club pushes toward Champions League qualification completion.
