Tennessee Baseball Eliminated by VCU in NCAA Regional
Tennessee went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and lost its first regional game in program history, ending a five-year Super Regional streak.
On Saturday, VCU defeated Tennessee 5-4 at Boshamer Stadium, eliminating the Volunteers from the Chapel Hill Regional and ending their season at 38-22.
Offensive struggles plagued the Volunteers, who finished 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, while RHP Tegan Kuhns battled illness before the bullpen surrendered decisive runs.
This defeat snapped Tennessee's streak of five straight super regional appearances and six straight seasons with at least 40 wins, marking the first time the program went winless in a regional.
Head coach Josh Elander concluded his first season, saying, "The game has told us we need to make some adjustments," after the early exit.
Despite this early exit, the Volunteers maintain the most wins of any Division I program since 2020 and secured their seventh straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
