White Sox Slugger Munetaka Murakami Sent on Rehab Stint, Could Rejoin Chicago Before All-Star Break
Munetaka Murakami could return after a couple of Triple-A games, with manager Will Venable saying the White Sox want to protect the hamstring injury.
White Sox rookie first baseman Munetaka Murakami will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, facing Nashville in his final step before rejoining Chicago's lineup.
Murakami has been sidelined since May 29 with a Grade 2 hamstring strain sustained while running out a double play against Detroit, though he remains tied for second on the team with 20 home runs.
Despite his five-week absence, Chicago maintained a 17-15 record near the top of the AL Central, while the Japanese free agent has recorded 41 RBIs and 43 runs in his debut season.
Manager Will Venable emphasized a cautious, flexible approach to Murakami's return, stating, "If it goes well, it doesn't have to play out every single game."
Assuming recovery proceeds smoothly, Murakami could rejoin the White Sox lineup by Friday, exactly six weeks after his injury, with Venable confirming a possibility he returns before the All-Star break.
