White House confirms Vance trip to Switzerland delayed
The delay leaves the next phase of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks uncertain as officials cite unfinished logistics and a 60-day timetable.
The White House announced Thursday night that Vice President JD Vance is delaying his trip to Switzerland for nuclear negotiations with Iran, citing logistical challenges.
Al-Mayadeen reported that Iran delayed sending its delegation to Switzerland, citing Israel's ongoing military campaign in Lebanon. Washington lifted its blockade, allowing oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
Congressional Republicans criticized the deal, worrying Washington ceded too much to Iran through sanction relief and a potential $300 billion rebuilding fund. Vance defended the agreement, stating demands must be met first.
A top Trump administration envoy recently told lawmakers that Iran will invite international inspectors to its nuclear sites. Hard-liners remain opposed to direct talks, particularly after the 2015 nuclear deal collapsed.
In fact, delegations from Iran and the US were scheduled to meet this Friday to negotiate a lasting end to the war. According to the US Vice-President, negotiations are taking place, but he does not mention a date.
