Whitby man convicted after being caught with more than 26,000 unmarked cigarettes

A Whitby man is one of 17 people recently convicted of Tobacco Tax Act violations and now faces a hefty fine. A release from the provincial government says Hijan Safi of Whitby was caught with 26,625 unmarked cigarettes that he was going to sell. He was convicted under the Tobacco Tax Act, but the release did not specify exactly what violations he was charged with. Safi was hit with a $9,000 fine.
