Carrying Dutch flags, banners, and smoking torches, a large procession of around a thousand protesters marched through Nieuw-Lekkerland. Their message to the mayor was clear: no asylum seekers' center here. Yet, not everyone feels the same way. "I know Nieuw-Lekkerland as a warm and welcoming village."
Hundreds of residents in Nieuw-Lekkerland demonstrated Monday evening against the possible arrival of an asylum seekers' center. The demonstration was peaceful and without incident. Participants gathered early in the evening at a truck stop on Planetenlaan and then marched towards the Het Carillon events center.
