You’ll Soon Be Able to Send View-Once Texts on WhatsApp

WABetaInfo says the feature is in iOS and Android beta tests, and WhatsApp will block copying, forwarding, screenshots and screen recordings.

  • On Monday, WABetaInfo reported that WhatsApp is testing "view-once" text messages on Apple devices, with the feature spotted in the TestFlight beta.
  • WhatsApp already supports disappearing photos, videos, and voice notes, but the platform is finally joining other apps like Snapchat and Telegram by adding this functionality.
  • Users will select "Send as view once" by long-pressing the Send button, and WhatsApp will block copying, forwarding, and screenshots to ensure the content remains "eyes only."
  • The company is also developing this feature for Android devices, though WABetaInfo notes it is not yet available to testers, suggesting a wide release could take time.
  • Earlier this year, WhatsApp also began testing an "After Reading" timer for disappearing messages, reflecting a broader shift to improve privacy controls for individual messages.
