The Cernavode nuclear power plant depends on the Danube water for cooling installations. Even after stopping a reactor, cooling must continue, and in periods with very low river levels, the units can be stopped controlled for their safe keeping.
The drought and the energy crisis have demonstrated that Romania is not sufficiently prepared to keep the reactors at the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant in operation, Prime Minister Bolojan said.
