- On January 19 the Communist Party of Vietnam opened its 14th National Congress with roughly 1,600 delegates convening to formalize leadership and structural reforms.
- General Secretary To Lam has pursued anti-corruption purges that removed key rivals and led the `Streamlining Revolution` abolishing eight ministries and cutting nearly 150,000 jobs.
- Security and military figures are poised to comprise close to half of a roughly 19-member Politburo, with three to four MPS-linked seats, while Regulation 366 establishes a scoring system and the CPV expands leadership to a five-pillars system elevating the permanent member of the Secretariat.
- The Congress will decide who leads Vietnamese politics through 2031, while the National Assembly endorsed 10 percent growth for 2026 and the Party targets at least 10 percent annual GDP expansion for 2026-2030 with per capita income at $8,500 by 2030.
