Asteroid 2024 YR4 Might Smash Into the Moon
- Scientists closely monitored asteroid 2024 YR4 in 2025 after it showed an unusually high chance of impacting Earth or the Moon in 2032.
- The initial impact probability exceeded 1% in January 2025 but fluctuated due to refined orbit data, later reaching nearly 4.3% chance of striking the Moon.
- Experts used ground-based observatories and the James Webb Space Telescope to conclude by March 2025 that 2024 YR4 posed no direct threat to Earth but could hit the Moon.
