Day of Prayers for Victims After Bangladesh Jet Crash
DHAKA DISTRICT, DHAKA DIVISION, JUL 24 – Chinese and Indian medical teams treat burn injuries from a Bangladesh Air Force jet crash that killed 29 and injured 57, mostly students, officials reported.
- A military F-7 jet crashed into the Milestone School and College campus in Dhaka, piloted by Flight Lieutenant Mohammad Towkir Islam Sagar, who died in the crash.
- According to the Bangladesh Chief Adviser's Press Wing, the death toll rose to 29 with 57 injured, and the government decided to give state honours to two teachers killed.
- The Chinese Emergency Medical Team scheduled to arrive Thursday evening, Chinese Embassy in Dhaka said, will head directly to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery to provide urgent care and assess conditions.
- Randhir Jaiswal, Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, said the Indian Medical Team held detailed consultations at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, adding they consist of doctors and nurses from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
- Ambassador Yao Wen said China will continue to assist Bangladesh with emergency humanitarian medical aid, adding the deployment of additional medical teams and essential medical equipment, and offered heartfelt condolences.
