Westworld is getting a movie reboot, with the writer of Jurassic Park on board
David Koepp is writing the screenplay as Warner Bros. seeks a fresh take on Michael Crichton’s sci-fi franchise.
Warner Bros. has tapped screenwriter David Koepp to write a new feature film adaptation of Westworld, the 1973 sci-fi thriller originally written and directed by Michael Crichton.
Crichton's 1973 film followed vacationers at a futuristic theme park populated by lifelike robots that malfunction, a premise later adapted into a critically acclaimed HBO series created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.
Known for adapting Jurassic Park, Koepp brings extensive experience with major franchises like Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, and War of the Worlds to this new project.
A 'major filmmaker' is reportedly circling the project, though Warner Bros. has yet to attach a director or confirm whether the movie will connect to previous franchise entries.
As Warner Bros. navigates a sale to Paramount Skydance, fans hope this film might eventually restore the cancelled HBO series to streaming services.
