WestJet flight attendants wrap up vote on tentative deal
The 90.2% vote backs a contract that adds new pay for ground work and raises wages by more than 18% over three years.
- On Monday, WestJet flight attendants represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees 8125 ratified their new collective agreement with a 90.2% vote in favor of the deal.
- Tough negotiations, particularly over boarding pay, led to a one-day strike by 4,400 cabin crew earlier this month, increasing pressure on the bargaining process between WestJet and staff.
- The ratified contract delivers a more than 18 per cent wage increase over three years, including a 13 per cent hike this October, followed by 2.75 per cent in January and 2.5 per cent in 2028.
- "This is a strong mandate from our members and recognition of the meaningful gains we made at the bargaining table," said Alia Hussain, president of CUPE 8125, thanking members for solidarity.
- The agreement aims to stabilize operations following more than 900 flight cancellations this summer, positioning WestJet amid broader labour trends recently affecting Air Canada and other major carriers.
