WesternU hosts second annual A.P. Howells, DO, Endowed Lectureship

Western University of Health Sciences Heatherington College of Osteopathic Medicine hosted the second annual A.P. Howells, DO, Endowed Lectureship on August 29-30, 2026, in Lebanon, Oregon, featuring a hands-on Fascial Distortion Model workshop.
This lectureship honors Allen Page "A.P." Howells, DO, a pioneer of osteopathic medicine who served patients in Oregon for more than 50 years. Howells established a clinic in Albany after receiving treatment that transformed his health.
Workshop leader Todd Capistrant, DO, explained that the Fascial Distortion Model helps practitioners address pain by listening to patient gestures. "I strongly feel that OMM is one of the most powerful tools that DOs have," Capistrant said.
During the inaugural Shoulders of Giants Endowed Lectureship Dinner, three individuals received awards for their leadership: Micah Thorp, DO, Maggie Doe, DO, and WesternU HCOM student Alissa Reed.
Site Dean Heather Phipps, DO, MBA, FAAOS, noted the Howells family's legacy is "deeply woven into the fabric of community health, education, and service." The lectureship aims to inspire future generations in osteopathic medicine.
