Western Japan sees earliest end to rainy season on record
- The Japan Meteorological Agency announced on July 18, 2025, that the rainy season ended unusually early in western Japan including Shikoku, Chugoku, and Kinki regions.
- This earliest end since 1951, except southern Kyushu, occurred because a high-pressure system pushed the rainy front northward ahead of schedule.
- Temperatures are expected to reach 35 degrees Celsius or higher in cities like Nagoya, Kyoto, Naha, Kumagaya, and Kagoshima due to this high-pressure system.
- The JMA warned about heatstroke risks during the extremely hot period from July 18 to 24 and urged people to take precautions against heat-related illness.
- This early end and rising temperatures imply a shift in seasonal patterns, which may increase health risks and extend the summer heat period across Japan.
