Truck Driver Arrested After Driving Wrong Way on Trans-Canada Highway
Police say the 52-year-old driver was arrested for dangerous operation after multiple complaints and was later released pending further investigation.
- On Saturday, West Shore RCMP intercepted a commercial transport truck traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the Trans Canada Highway near the Helmcken Road exit after receiving multiple complaints at approximately 4:40 a.m.
- The 52-year-old driver from the Vancouver area initially failed to stop for police, eventually halting near the Leigh Road exit where officers arrested him for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
- Investigators ruled out alcohol or drug impairment, attributing the incident to driver confusion; police reported no injuries or collisions, and the truck was towed from the scene.
- Under the Motor Vehicle Act, the driver received a $368 fine and six penalty points for driving without due care and attention, plus a $144 fine and three penalty points for failing to stop for police.
- Authorities released the man pending further investigation, with referrals to the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement branch and the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles for additional administrative oversight.
