Afghanistan Seal 2027 World Cup Berth, West Indies to Go Through Qualifiers Again
West Indies ranked 10th must enter the February 2027 qualifier after missing the top eight ODI ranking cut-off, the ICC said.
The West Indies will miss direct qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup, currently ranked 10th and unable to reach the top eight by the September 30 cutoff despite two remaining matches against India.
This failure follows their inability to make the 2023 ODI World Cup, where they finished fifth in the Super Six stage and ultimately lost out, marking the first time the two-time champions missed the tournament.
The team must now navigate the Qualifier tournament scheduled for February next year, which remains their only opportunity to join the confirmed field for the 2027 showpiece.
Afghanistan secured automatic qualification after defeating Ireland in Belfast, joining hosts South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia alongside Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, and Bangladesh.
The Qualifier structure includes the two lowest-ranked Full Members, along with the top four teams from Cricket World Cup League 2 and the top four from a World Cup Qualifier Playoff.
