- On Tuesday, Birbhum Police raided a Deucha hideout linked to suspected sand mafia Tulu Mondal, recovering around 15 kg of gold and nearly Rs 20 crore in cash. Officers deployed five cash-counting machines and five heavy tin trunks to process the seized wealth.
- Authorities discovered the stash at the home of Minar Mondal, brother-in-law to Tulu Mondal. Officials alleged Tulu Mondal's agency siphoned revenue from six stone industrial clusters, depositing only Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore monthly into the government treasury instead of the expected Rs 83 crore.
- The massive recovery was packed into about 35 sacks, requiring hours of processing with specialized equipment. Police sources said the seizure followed a secret tip-off regarding alleged financial irregularities linked to the stone trade.
- West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari praised the "commendable job" by Law Enforcement, reiterating his government's commitment to a "Zero Tolerance Policy against Corruption." He vowed the crackdown on mafia syndicates would continue.
- The operation follows months of warnings from Adhikari regarding Tulu Mondal ahead of the Bengal Assembly elections. Investigators are currently probing the source of the recovered assets as authorities intensify their broader drive against organized crime.
