Plans to Introduce Direct Rail Service Between Liverpool and Wrexham - Liverpool Echo

In May 2024, the Welsh Government launched Network North Wales, a programme designed to establish a new rail connection from Wrexham to Liverpool and to extend metro-style services along the North Wales mainline.
This plan arose from collaborative efforts among UK, Welsh, and English authorities aiming to accelerate improvements, bringing forward a 50% increase in services from December 2026 to May 2025.
Key features include doubling Wrexham-Chester trains next May, new Llandudno-Liverpool service, extending Manchester Airport trains to Holyhead, station upgrades, and introduction of Pay as You Go ticketing across the line.
Ken Skates stated that the initiative aims to enhance community connectivity by increasing rail and bus frequency, improving coordination between services, and introducing additional stations, transport links, upgraded trains and buses, along with advanced technology.
The programme aims to unlock North Wales’ economic potential by providing improved connectivity with phased improvements planned through 2035, including service frequency targets, new stations, and transport innovations.
