Berlin's Governing Mayor Wegner, together with representatives from politics and society, recalled the construction of the Berlin Wall on 13 August 1961. At the central memorial on Bernauer Straße, there was a devotion in the Chapel of Reconciliation. Afterwards, wreaths were laid down. Wegner said that the victims would never forget.
On the occasion of the 64th anniversary of the construction of the Wall, the SED Victim Commissioners and Berlin's Governing Mayors remind us that freedom and democracy are not a matter of course.
