Russia Threatens Armenia Over Membership in CSTO Military Bloc
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that Armenia may have to forfeit membership rights in the Collective Security Treaty Organization, an alliance of six former Soviet states, as tensions between Moscow and Yerevan continue to rise.
Armenia, which has not paid its contributions to the CSTO budget for more than two years and has not paid its arrears, has decided to apply the article of the statute, which provides for measures to be taken in response to such a case, as stated by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, on the basis of the results of the Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of CSTO States in Kazan.
