New BMW 3 Series Goes Electric From £47,925
The electric sedan uses Gen6 battery cells, bidirectional charging and a redesigned digital dashboard as BMW targets Mercedes rivals.
- The BMW confirmed an official launch in the first quarter of 2027 for the i3 50 xDrive, starting at $61,500 plus a $1,350 destination fee and competing in the Mercedes C-Class segment.
- Built on the Neue Klasse platform, the i3 utilizes Gen6 high-voltage batteries with cylindrical cells that hold 20 per cent more energy than previous designs, advancing The BMW's electric strategy.
- EPA testing estimates the i3 will achieve 468 miles of range, while the rear-mounted EESM produces a combined output of 463 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque across both motors.
- Inside the cabin, the i3 replaces traditional gauge clusters with the Panoramic Vision display, projecting information onto the windshield and allowing users to drag and drop up to six "widgets" for customization.
- The BMW plans to introduce the high-powered M60 xDrive in 2027, featuring M-specific graphics and 21-inch aerodynamic wheels to compete with the Mercedes EQS range estimate of 925km.
