Ukraine Attacked Russian Oil Refinery in Yaroslavl, Zelenskiy Says
Ukrainian forces said they used long-range drones to target the refinery, part of a broader campaign that hit 11 Russian oil facilities this month.
On Friday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian forces struck the Yaroslavl oil refinery on Thursday night, located about 700 kilometers from Ukrainian territory.
Seeking to disrupt Russia's oil industry and slash revenue funding the war, Ukraine has hit 11 Russian oil facilities this month as of May 21.
Yaroslavl Governor Mikhail Yevrayev claimed the attack was repelled, though debris may have fallen near the 300,000-barrel-a-day facility, targeted twice previously in May.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed fuel shortage concerns on Thursday, attributing lower output to "seasonal maintenance works" and insisting overall supply and demand remain balanced.
Zelenskyy stated the operation aims to bring the war "back home" to Russia, as drone attacks have forced major central Russian refineries to halt or scale back operations.
