Tenants of an Amsterdam neighborhood have sued the city over the unbearable crowds created by the Fabel Friet fryer, popularized on TikTok.
Tourists eat fries outside a Tiktok restaurant on a picturesque street in Amsterdam. Now residents in the area are so angry that they have gone to court. “Eating on the street is shameful behavior,” Thomas van Leeuwen tells The Guardian.
Popular in TikTok, Fabel Fried attracts crowds to the center of Amsterdam. But dirt and food remains, which call seagulls and rats, led the residents to advance with a judicial battle.
Endless queues, seagulls, and even rats: TikTok fry shop Fabel Friet has been causing headaches for residents of the Amsterdam canals for years. They filed a lawsuit against the municipality as early as 2024, but the proceedings only started last Tuesday. The operators of Fabel Friet claim to have already taken many measures to limit the nuisance.
A total of 19 neighbours have used the license of the establishment for the inconvenience caused by the influx of tourists, from the occupation of the street to the accumulation of garbage and the presence of gulls and rats
