He returned to the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival after almost thirty years. In 1997, American actor Jeffrey Wright personally presented the biographical drama Basquiat, in which he played the title role of his compatriot, the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960–1988). The role launched him into Hollywood, to roles in Bond films, the Hunger Games series, and the modern Batman.
