Élisabeth Borne, the French Minister of Education, asked that there be a minute of silence in all schools, on Thursday 12 June at noon (local time) in tribute to the overseer killed by a college student on Tuesday in Nogent, in the north-east of the country. "It is really the whole educational community that is in shock and the nation as a whole," she said on public radio France Inter.
The death of a guard, stabbed on Tuesday by a student during a bag check, aroused a strong emotion. The Prime Minister said the government would ban the sale of "any knife that may constitute a weapon" to minors.
The Minister of National Education denounced a "horrible tragedy" and called herself "open" to new measures to curb violence in schools.
