Waskom ISD Community Holds Prayer Walk for Brothers Killed in House Fire

The prayer walk brought together students and community members to support the grieving Pedraza family and first responders after the fatal fire, school officials said.

  • On Tuesday, students, teachers and community members gathered at Waskom High and Middle Schools for a prayer walk honoring two brothers killed last week; the walk began around 7:30 a.m. with a moment of silence.
  • Funeral arrangements include a rosary at 5 p.m. today and visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Cammack Family Funeral Home, with a funeral Mass Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Waskom High School gym.
  • Family members and pastors recalled the Pedraza family’s gratitude as more than 100 people filled the gym wearing red and blue, while Waskom Independent School District officials arranged additional counseling services.
  • Officials say the fire remains under investigation as the boys' father was injured during rescue and taken for medical treatment, with no update on his condition from the Harrison County Fire Marshal's Office or Texas State Fire Marshal's Office.
  • The district delayed the start of the second semester so students and staff could grieve together, while family members described Isaac Nicholas Pedraza, 8, and Hector Cesar Pedraza, 11, as funny and loving boys who enjoyed football, video games and the beach.
