House Democrats accuse Rep. Chuy Garcia of undermining election fairness by backing his chief of staff’s last-minute ballot entry, sparking calls for a House vote on the matter.
- On Tuesday, the House of Representatives rebuked Rep. Jesús `Chuy` García for setting up his chief of staff to succeed him, passing a 236-183 resolution with 23 Democrats voting yes and three present.
- García filed petitions on Oct. 27 then withdrew at the filing deadline while Patty García, chief of staff, filed just before the 5 p.m. Nov. 3 deadline as the only Democratic filer.

- If not withdrawn, the House would have to vote on the privileged resolution as soon as next week, creating a headache for House Democratic leadership which tried to table the measure.
- García is expected to pull his petitions amid calls for accountability, as critics called the maneuver a `coronation` while many House Democrats defended him on Monday night.
