The US military has compelled 99 commercial vessels to alter their routes in the Gulf as part of its blockade against Iranian ports, according to CENTCOM. This comes amid ongoing tensions in the region, with a scheduled meeting among Gulf states in Oman aimed at discussing maritime safety and security in the Strait of Hormuz, where threats to shipping remain high.
Following increased Iranian attacks on ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz at night, the US has implemented new regulations for the military protection it provides for the safe passage of tankers. Washington now requires tankers to pass through the strait only during specific time intervals in order to benefit from military protection.
