Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy welcomes Porzingis, denies shopping Green, Butler before trade
GM Mike Dunleavy denied active trade talks involving Draymond Green or Jimmy Butler while acquiring Kristaps Porzingis to bolster rim protection and spacing.
- Mike Dunleavy Jr. said the Warriors traded Kuminga and Hield for Porzingis and denied Green was being shopped, after introducing Porzingis in Los Angeles Saturday night.
- Once it became clear the Bucks would not trade Giannis, salary math required including Green or Butler, as discussed by the Warriors front office.
- Porzingis offers rim protection and floor spacing, averaging 17.1 points and 36% from three, but has played only 17 games this season due to Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and injuries.
- With the deadline behind them, Dunleavy said the Warriors retain draft picks and flexibility and see the Porzingis-Green pairing as a way to stabilize the team after Butler's ACL injury.
- The Warriors will hold Porzingis out of the final three games before the All-Star break and plan to debut him after the break, with Feb. 19 at Boston as the first test.
