Student Wounded and Young Suspect Is in Custody After Shooting at Georgia High School, Police Say
Two students were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries as deputies investigated the shooting and kept students in classrooms during a controlled dismissal.
- On Wednesday, a shooting at Warner Robins High School left two students injured. Houston County Sheriff Matt Moulton confirmed the school is secure and a suspect is in custody.
- The Houston County School District conducted safety drills on Tuesday using the Centegix CrisisAlert System, just one day before the incident. The school has around 1,800 students and began its year on August 4.
- A significant law enforcement presence, including a Georgia State Patrol helicopter, responded to the campus on South Davis Drive. Nearby Sacred Heart Catholic Church implemented a lockdown during the incident.
- Officials initiated a controlled dismissal for students, with the process taking longer than normal due to security procedures. The Warner Robins Police Department assisted The Houston County Sheriff throughout the operation.
- Authorities have not determined what prompted the shooting, and the incident remains under investigation. Sen. Raphael Warnock stated he is monitoring the situation and expressed support for the injured students.
