Warner Music Group, Udio Settle Copyright Case, Plan New AI Song Creation Platform

Warner Music Group and Udio will launch a licensed AI music platform in 2026, creating new revenue streams while ensuring artist royalties and credits, WMG said.

  • Warner Music Group settled its copyright case with Udio on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, and the companies will jointly launch a licensed AI music-creation platform in 2026.
  • The suits accused AI platforms of using copyrighted recordings to train models, with major labels suing Udio and Suno last year over alleged misuse of songs like the Temptations' "My Girl".
  • Powered by generative AI models trained on licensed and authorized music, Udio's subscription service lets users create remixes, covers, and new songs with artists and songwriters who opt in, ensuring expanded protections and that creators are credited and paid.
  • Following Universal Music Group's settlement last month, the industry shifts toward licensing, creating new revenue streams for artists and songwriters, though separate cases against Suno and Sony Music Entertainment continue.
  • As Udio transitions, it will maintain its current closed system while rolling out licensed applications, with Udio 2.0 as a "walled garden" prohibiting outside sharing as 97 per cent of listeners cannot distinguish AI and human songs.
