Walz files for information on Trump 'retribution campaign'
Walz filed 16 Freedom of Information Act requests to trace what his office calls a campaign of retribution against Minnesota.
On Tuesday, Gov. Tim Walz filed 16 FOIA requests with federal agencies, seeking records he described as revealing a 'campaign of retribution' by the Trump Administration against Minnesota.
Walz claims Minnesota has faced more than 100 federal demands, investigations, and threats to 'illegally' withhold funding since Jan 20, 2025, prompting his office to investigate federal agency coordination.
The requests target communications referencing 'reckoning,' 'retribution,' 'punish,' and 'Democrat,' submitted to 16 agencies including the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, and Department of Education.
These filings follow District Chief Judge Patrick Schiltz's ruling quashing federal subpoenas against state officials as 'unconstitutional,' stating the government aimed to 'harass and retaliate' against Minnesota.
Describing the decision as a win for the 'rule of law,' Walz argued the subpoenas represent daily reminders of broader 'lawlessness' occurring in Minnesota and across the country.
