Walmart Opens Next-Generation Fulfillment Center in Stockton, Expanding Faster Delivery Across the West Coast
The high-tech facility uses automation and machine learning to speed shipping and support third-party Marketplace orders.
On Thursday, October 8, 2026, Walmart opened its fifth next-generation fulfillment center in Stockton, California, a more than 900,000-square-foot facility creating more than 1,000 jobs.
The high-tech facility features an automated storage and retrieval system that reduces the traditional 12-step fulfillment process to just five steps, allowing associates to focus on higher-value work.
Commemorating the opening, Walmart gave $10,000 in grants to the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton and Unbound Stockton Community School. "Walmart's new fulfillment center will create more than 1,000 jobs," said Timm Quinn, CEO, Stockton Chamber of Commerce.
Karisa Sprague, senior vice president, Fulfillment Operations, Walmart U.S., stated the facility combines technology with safer operations; full-time positions offer 401 matching and tuition-paid college degrees through Live Better U.
Combined with Walmart's broader fulfillment network, the Stockton center enables the retailer to reach 95% of the U.S. population with next- or two-day shipping, positioning the company for expanded West Coast capacity.
