Polls Close in 2026 Scottish Parliament Election
Polls suggest the SNP could fall short of a majority as Labour and Reform UK battle for second place.
Voters across Scotland head to the polls on Thursday to elect 129 MSPs to the Scottish Parliament, with polling stations open from 07:00 until 22:00.
First Minister John Swinney's SNP has led the campaign, telling voters that a majority would pressure Westminster to grant a second referendum on independence.
Pollsters noted "most notable movement" from Scottish Labour, with constituency support rising to 20 per cent, while Reform UK looks poised to win at least a dozen seats.
Unlike previous elections, votes will be counted starting at 09:00 on Friday rather than overnight, with the Electoral Management Board for Scotland expecting results by Friday afternoon.
Forecasts indicate potential gains for the Scottish Greens and Liberal Democrats, while the Scottish Conservatives fear a "near-existential wipe-out," potentially upending Scotland's political consensus.
