Mayor of Ivry-sur-Seine, Philippe Bouyssou, a member of the Communist Party, accused Kevin Nader, a municipal councilor in the town in the Val-de-Marne department near Paris, of a 'political crime' for holding up a cross and reciting the Hail Mary during a recent town meeting.
RECIT - An elected RN recited a Marian prayer in the city council, after unsuccessfully asking to ban religious signs in the assembly of Ivry-sur-Seine, where two left-wing elected women sit veiled. Mayor Philippe Bouyssou then put himself in a black anger and promised to seize the prefect against this elected one.
The meeting of the municipal council of Ivry-sur-Seine on June 12 went around the media: the elected RN Kevin Nader brandishing a crucifix and reciting a "Hail Mary." But, behind the (bad) buzz, several headlines shook the context: a debate on secularism, the veil and the neutrality of elected officials.
