The EU-Moldova summit amounted to a review Moldova’s progress in reforms on the path to European integration, particularly on the rule of law, fundamental rights, and the fight against organized crime, as well as aligning legislation with the EU acquis.
EU President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen have emphasized that, as far as they are concerned, Moldova is well on its way to EU accession. The candidate country has already implemented "93 percent of the reforms" covered by the so-called growth plan, according to Von der Leyen following a summit between the EU and Moldova.
The EU leaders adopted a joint statement in 20 points, reflecting "the depth of the EU-Moldova partnership and the concrete benefits it brings to citizens", at the bilateral summit in Brussels.
