Facilities in the North Sea's depleted oil fields could take on a new role
The Bundestag has decided that climate-damaging carbon dioxide may be stored under the sea. Analyses show which regions in the German North Sea are particularly suitable.
In the late evening, the Bundestag voted in favour of a bill by the Federal Government, which allows the export of isolated CO2 to be stored.
In the future, it will be possible to transport CO2 across borders and store it permanently underground – for example, under the seabed. The German Bundestag has passed a corresponding law.
