The European Union will allocate 81.2 million euros in humanitarian aid to the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is facing mass displacement and shortages of basic necessities due to fighting, especially in the east of the country. More than 21 million people are in need of humanitarian aid, Brussels announced.
The eastern part of the DRC, bordering Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi and rich in natural resources, has been ravaged by violence for more than three decades.
