France's Prime Minister François Bayrou is said to have known early on of allegations of physical and sexual violence at a Catholic school. His behaviour in this case was partly "unbearable and unacceptable".


Inquiry accuses French PM of failing to act over school abuse
Physical and sexual violence at a Catholic school in France persisted for years without any response from now-Prime Minister Francois Bayrou, who served as education minister between 1993 and 1997, a parliamentary inquiry has found.
In their report, MPs Paul Vannier and Violette Spillebout point to François Bayrou's "failure to act" against the violence in Betharram.
The 50 proposals of the parliamentary committee of inquiry on violence in schools were unveiled on Wednesday 2 July. Despite months of investigation, this body leaves a taste unfulfilled even if it participated in the emergence of the victims' words.
