- Edina police arrested Alexander on April 26 after finding him unresponsive in a vehicle stopped in an intersection; he later pleaded guilty to a third-degree driving while impaired charge on July 16.
- Following his guilty plea, Alexander received two years of probation, 48 hours of community service, and a $603 fine. "I take full responsibility for the situation I put myself in and apologize," Alexander said.
- Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell announced the discipline at the start of training camp, stating the club waited until the legal process concluded. "Disappointment is the word," O'Connell said.
- The three-week suspension began on Friday, July 24, and continues until August 13; Alexander, in his 10th year of NFL coaching, will return two days before the first preseason game.
