The underwater statue of the Christ of the Abyss, created by the sculptor Guido Galleti and installed in 1954 in the bay of San Fruttuoso, in the northwest of Italy, is subjected to an annual cleaning done by specialized divers. The work, made by fused metals of medals, cannons and ships, honors people who have lost their lives at sea and is cleaned with high pressure water jets to preserve the bronze surface.
