Victoria team on the verge of Intermediate Little League World Series berth
Victoria scored 13 runs and is one win from a historic berth at the Intermediate Little League World Series, manager Will Whiteside said.
- On Wednesday, the Victoria Bulldogs defeated Diamond Baseball Academy 5-2 to win the Canadian Intermediate Little League Championship, becoming the first Vancouver Island team to earn a berth at the Intermediate Little League World Series.
- Following a Tuesday shutout loss where Adrian Shih no-hit the Bulldogs 8-0, the team forced a winner-take-all Game 3. Manager Will Whiteside credited the squad's resolve for bouncing back immediately to secure the title.
- Desmond Howard sparked the offense with a home run, while Matt Mickelson threw 92 pitches over nearly seven innings. Jace Hansen delivered 2.1 innings in relief, and Jackson Inami Bercovitz closed the game.
- The team flies to California on Friday before opening the 12-team tournament against Czechia on Sunday, Aug. 2, representing Canada as the country's lone entry at the Intermediate Little League World Series.
- No Vancouver Island team had qualified for the Intermediate Little League World Series since its 2013 inception. The division features rules resembling high school baseball for players aged 10 to 12, making the Bulldogs' achievement a historic milestone.
