Victoria police officer charged with sexual assault

The charge follows an external investigation by West Shore RCMP and was approved by the BC Prosecution Service, police said.

  • On Friday, Victoria Police Chief Constable Fiona Wilson announced that Const. Chris Kayiatos has been charged with sexual assault following an external criminal investigation conducted by the West Shore RCMP.
  • The department was notified of the alleged off-duty incident by a third-party agency on April 10, 2025, and immediately transferred the investigation to the West Shore RCMP to ensure independence.
  • Kayiatos, 31, has been suspended from service, and Wilson emphasized he remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
  • Addressing the media Friday to maintain transparency, Wilson noted that charging an officer can "shake the public's trust," and she committed to accountability as the case moves forward.
  • Although no information indicates on-duty misconduct, VicPD will conduct a "more fulsome look" at the officer's work history in the coming months.
