Victoria Police arrest two men in connection with abduction, sexual assault of woman

Police say the victim was sexually assaulted multiple times and unlawfully confined before two suspects were charged with trafficking and related offences.

  • On Tuesday, June 30, VicPD Deputy Chief Jamie McRae announced charges against Rahul Chahar, 24, and Nagender Nagender, 22, following an investigation into a violent sexual assault in Victoria.
  • A woman reported being driven from Nanaimo to a residence in the 1100 block of Meares Street in Victoria on June 19, where she alleged she was sexually assaulted and prevented from leaving.
  • After Nanaimo RCMP contacted VicPD on June 20, officers arrested the men on June 21; Chahar faces charges of sexual assault causing bodily harm and unlawful confinement, while Nagender is charged with trafficking in persons.
  • Both accused remain in custody pending their next court appearance on July 2, as McRae stated the matter is now before the courts and limits what investigators can publicly disclose.
  • VicPD encourages anyone with information to contact the E-Comm non-emergency line at 250-995-7654, while support services remain available for those who have experienced abuse, exploitation, or human trafficking.
