Victor Marx Wins the Republican Primary for Colorado Governor
The Marine veteran and ministry leader won with 39.9% of the vote and will face Democratic Attorney General Phil Weiser in November.
On Thursday, The Associated Press declared political newcomer Victor Marx the winner of Colorado's Republican gubernatorial primary, concluding a race too close to call for more than a week.
While state Sen. Barb Kirkmeyer initially led following early ballot returns, Marx steadily gained ground as Election Day votes filtered in, eventually securing a narrow victory of roughly 2,500 votes.
Marx's campaign faced intense scrutiny over claims he killed a man at age 7 and performed 'high-risk humanitarian' operations; he retorted "Does it matter?" when pressed about his history.
Marx will face Democratic Attorney General Phil Weiser in November's general election, an uphill battle for Republicans who haven't won Colorado's governor's office in more than 20 years.
Primary opponents Kirkmeyer and state Rep. Scott Bottoms withheld endorsements, with Bottoms calling Marx a "con man" and Kirkmeyer calling him unfit, citing concerns about his rhetoric.
