Victims in Double Fatal Crash ID’d

(Decatur County, IN) – The names of those involved in Friday morning’s double fatality wreck that also seriously injured one person have been released. It was around 6 a.m. when Decatur County Dispatch received a call about a head-on crash on the 5,000 block of U.S. 421 North. The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Jason Paul Hall of Marion appeared to be heading north when it crossed the center line and struck a southbound vehicle driven by 56-year-old Douglas Gordon Ott of Shelbyville. The force of the collision spun Ott’s vehicle around, and it came to rest facing northbound. Hall’s vehicle was facing north in the southbound lane. The drivers and a passenger in Ott’s vehicle – 18-year-old James Alexander Ott, also from Shelbyville –  were trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated. Both Hall and Douglas Ott were pronounced dead at the scene. James Ott was flown by medical helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital with severe injuries. U.S. 421 was closed until about 10 a.m. when the clean up was completed. The crash investigation is ongoing. The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from Decatur County Communications, Letts Fire/EMS, the Greensburg Police Department, Lifeline Medical Helicopter, Indiana State Police, Decatur County Coroner’s Office, Decatur County EMS, Adams Volunteer Fire Department, Statflight 5 Medical Helicopter, and Platinum Wrecker Service.
