It has been discovered that a veterinarian who was treating a cat infected with Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS), a virus transmitted to mammals through ticks, has died. It is suspected that the veterinarian was also infected.
Mie Prefecture announced on the 13th that a veterinarian in the prefecture had died after contracting the tick-borne viral infection "severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome." The route of infection is unclear, but the veterinarian had been treating an infected cat before his death.
