Veteran linebacker Sankey on nice late-season roll with surging B.C. Lions
Sankey has 94 tackles and 112 defensive plays as the Lions try to extend a three-game win streak and clinch a playoff berth.
On Friday, the Lions can clinch a playoff berth with a victory over the Ottawa Redblacks , having won three straight games and eight-of-nine overall to stand second in the West Division.
Standing six-foot and 242-pound, linebacker Sankey currently holds 94 tackles this season and is poised to reach the 100-tackle plateau for a third consecutive year, a feat only Hall of Famer Willie Pless has achieved.
Recording 37 defensive tackles over the Lions' last four games, Sankey contributed to the team's momentum with 10 tackles in a 31-24 victory over Saskatchewan on Sept. 25.
The Lions still have designs on first place in the West, though the Edmonton Elks would clinch the top spot with a win over Hamilton on Friday and a Lions loss to Ottawa.
After playing Ottawa, the Lions finish the regular season visiting the Calgary Stampeders on Oct. 17 and hosting the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Oct. 23, with the club able to secure second place by winning out.
